Bottom Pair – PPP#24

In this week’s episode of the Postflop Poker Podcast we’re discussing bottom pair.

In most cases we’re not overly enthusiastic with a hand like this, but bottom pair can still have a decent amount of value depending on the circumstances.

We’re missing our host of the show Captain Quayle, but Ben is filling in nicely for him. And even though I just went through a brutal dentist appointment myself, I still manage to deliver some nuggets of poker wisdom (or at least so I hope)!

Middle Pair – PPP#23

Listen in on another great episode of the Postflop Poker Podcast, where the crew discusses playing middle pair.

Ben talks about his “Dryvember” challenge to get rid of some excessive belly fat. And Mike – who is incidentally labelled a “psychopath” by Podcast Captain Scott Quayle  – coins the new term “value check”. This refers to checking medium strength hands for extra value.

Top Pair Weak Kicker – PPP#22

Do kickers matter? Yes, they matter a lot!

If you use a program like Holdem Manager to track your results, you can see that there is a massive difference in profitability of a top pair depending on the kicker. Top Pair Top Kicker makes way more money than Top Pair with a weaker kicker.

Top Pair Strong Kicker – PPP#21

In episode 21 we discuss flopping top pair strong kicker (Queen or King). Apart from some non-poker related banter as usual, we’ve got two interesting hands and one bonus “speed” hand to discuss. We talk about one hand that I messed up (a bit). You learn from your mistakes and I will definitely be playing it differently next time!

In this episode, we have a special guest on the show: Tim “onthestoop” Reisner. Tim is an experienced SNG coach and you can find out more about him on his website

Bottom Pair on a Paired Board – PPP#19

It’s episode 19 of the Postflop Poker Podcast and we’re approaching more difficult post-flop territory.

Bottom pair on a paired board is one of those spots where you have a decent hand, but not a great one. What do you do? Go for value, exercise pot control, turn your hand into a bluff? Things can get dicey.

In this episode we review two cash game hands and also discuss the implications of deep stacked play.
